We spent Thanksgiving in Pennsylvania as planned and then spent the next 3 weeks frantically getting ready for Christmas. There just didn't seem to be enough time to do everything that needed to be done. Mailing Christmas cards, decorating, and shopping continued right up until the last possible moment but in the end everything did get completed. Christmas Eve and Christmas Day were spent peacefully and enjoyably with family as they are meant to be. I even had time to update the blog and add pictures.
May 2007 be a good year for all!

New Look
I finally gave the blog a new look but haven't added any pictures since our summer vacation even though we have been to both the Bristol Motor Speedway and Lowe's Motor Speedway since then. Work has kept both Bob and I busy. Retirement sure sounds good but unless Bob wins the lottery we still have a few years of work left. We will be traveling north to PA to spend Thanksgiving with family and friends. This will be the first time in 21 years that we will be back "home" for this particular holiday. We are all excited and Sarah is hoping for snow. Her only experience with snow was several years ago when we went to Las Vegas for Christmas. Her first reaction - "It's cold!!" If it does snow I hope it's mid-week not when we are arriving or leaving. I really don't want to find out how the motorhome handles snowy roads! I hope to have pictures to post when we return.

Vacation Pictures
I finally got our Northeast vacation pictures edited and uploaded to the gallery. Be sure and check them out. There are a lot as the pictures turned out great and I had trouble trying to choose. I've been working in the yard as much as possible this week as school starts next week (for teachers). I definitely am not ready to go back. I need another month at least. Next year we aren't supposed to start until the middle of August. I think I'll like that better.

Home
We arrived back home about 4:30 this afternoon. The motorhome has been unloaded and most of the stuff put away. Tomorrow will be spent doing laundry and catching up on the yard work. We had a wonderful vacation and everyone was still speaking to each other at the end of our trip! I will post pictures in the gallery as soon as possible - just not tonight! :-)

Mt Desert Island
Yesterday we explored Acadia National Park. We took the Park Loop Road and stopped at all the popular spots. How did we know they were popular? There were very few parking places! Of course it was also a beautiful sunny SUNDAY. 
As we were in Maine we had to have a lobster dinner. That did NOT live up to our expectations. Because Bob doesn't care for seafood we opted for a place that served other food also. Lobster was obviously not their speciality! Oh well, at least we can say we had Maine lobster. We had scheduled a "whale-sighting" cruise for today but that, also, was a disappointment. 
We didn't make it beyond the harbor as the waves were really big and fog was coming in. It probably was a good thing that the boat turned around as people, including Mindi and Sarah, were starting to turn green. We did get our money back. So we went back to Acadia Nat'l Park, drove up to the summit of Cadillac Mountain, and went to see a lighthouse.
We stopped at a little restaurant in Southwest Harbor and had a great lunch complete with wild blueberry crisp. Well worth the price! Tomorrow we start for home with a stop in MA to visit Cape Cod. This may be the last post as I don't know what kind of internet connections we will get on the road. I hope to get all the pictures uploaded as soon as I get home so check back.

Maine
After a leisurely start this morning we arrived at the Mt Desert Resort on Mt Desert Island, Maine about 4 PM. It was so nice to get to our next stop with time to relax and enjoy our surroundings. It seems like so much of our trip has been rush to leave one destination and arrive just in time for dinner and bed at our next destination. This resort is very nice and most of the employees are from Florida. They work here in the summer and return south when the campground closes for the winter. The campground is next to the water and the sunset this evening was beautiful. 
Our plans for tomorrow are still hazy but I know they will include NO RUSHING!

B-r-r-r!
Today we went to the top of Mount Washington. This mountain is less than half the size of Pike's Peak but the Cog Railway trip to the top was much more intense than our rail trip to the top of Pike's Peak. The grade on Mount Washington averages 25% and the train goes straight up the mountain! It was very chilly and windy at the top. 
 Our next stop was the Flume Gorge.
It was a mile and a half hike and we all survived even Sarah. Tomorrow it's on to Maine. I want to apologize for not posting any of the vacation pictures in the vacation gallery. Apparently the internet connection that we have been using does not allow big uploads so I will have to wait until we get home to upload the pictures.

Greetings from New Hampshire
Well, we are 6 days into our vacation and finally have an interent connection! We celebrated the 4th in Tioga, our hometown, with a family picnic at the lake where we were camping.
Be sure and check out the pictures in the Gallery. On the 5th we celebrated Mindi's birthday with cake and watermelon. 
We had a good time visiting with all the relatives. Today we traveled from PA to Twin Mountain, NH. We had to make a detour in New York state because a section of I-88 had been washed out by the flooding. We were surprised at the extent of the flooding in eastern NY. We took US-4 across Vermont and even though the road was narrow, twisty, and SLOW the towns were very quaint. Many of the large, old homes had been turned into Bed and Breakfasts or restaurants. Tomorrow we are taking the Cog Railway to the top of Mt. Washington. Look for more pictures.

Blog Bug!
Well, as you can see the Blog Bug has hit me also. I'm still experimenting with the software and redesigning my site so there will probably be more changes before I am satisfied. Please feel free to make comments or suggestions, as long as they're nice. :-) The links for the picture galleries and other pages are on the sidebar.
The only effects from Alberto were a little wind and some much-needed rain. Believe it or not we're still more than 10 inches below normal. I'm still trying to get the lawn and flower beds in order and then I can tackle my other projects. I'll probably run out of time before I get them all finished.

New Pictures
New pictures have been added to the picture galleries - my Chicago trip, our new motorhome, the Charlotte race, and Sarah's dance recital.
School is out and I've been keeping busy. I have a huge list of projects I want to complete and the first one is trying to get the landscaping back under control. It's amazing how fast weeds grow even without rain!
We took our new motorhome to Charlotte to the races over Memorial Day week-end. I actually drove it and survived. It sure is bigger and more drivable than our first Class A. Bob is in seventh heaven with his backup camera, slides, and leveling jacks. Check out the pictures.
Sarah is spending Mondays and Tuesdays with us for the month of June as Mindi is taking a summer session class. We enjoy having her and she enjoys the pool. I need to take some pictures and post them.
It's less than a month to our 06 vacation trip. Gotta get busy and get everything and everyone prepared and organized.

Summer Plans
We have finalized our summer vacation plans! We're traveling to Pennsylvania to visit with family and friends and then on to New Hampshire and Maine. I've never been further north than Massachusetts so it will be uncharted territory for me. We hope to be able to use the Travel Blog to post our adventures and pictures.

14 people came to our house for Easter dinner. Check out the pictures in the Family Photo section. Mike is still working the bugs out of the Gallery software so I haven't kept up to date on my pictures.
Next week-end (April 30th) I will be flying to Chicago for the International Reading Conference. Another new place to explore! Our school is sending 12 teachers and I was lucky to be chosen as one of the participants. I'm going to have to put some thought into my packing as Chicago weather is going to be very different from our current 90° weather.
